From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Rescuers combed the South China Sea for survivors from a capsized oil barge. Divers spotted the barge’s missing diving chamber but feared that its four trapped occupants are dead. Worsening weather prevented a rescue attempt. Officials differ over how many of the 195 crew members on board had been saved after the barge capsized during a typhoon. The Singapore-based marine engineering firm McDermott Southeast Asia Ltd. said there are 172 survivors and that 10 people are missing. Earlier, rescue officials said 174 oil workers had been rescued.
