NATION IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Hurricane May Miss N. Carolina Coast

Hurricane Bob, packing winds of about 75 m.p.h., was upgraded from a tropical storm and forecasters posted warnings for the North Carolina coast. The hurricane, located about 380 miles south of Cape Hatteras, N.C., was expected to skirt the North Carolina coast and then continue north, officials at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. The storm continued to gain strength in the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.
