The merger of B of A and Security Pacific banks is yet another example of the seriousness of the erosion of our economic base and the industries we have come to depend on. Mergers usually mean consolidation, layoffs, closure of branches, increased size, impersonal service and inconvenience.
This nation is evolving into a “survival of the fittest” mentality, with the working poor and middle classes the inheritors of this tug of war.
Company loyalty, permanence and pride no longer exist; unpredictability and change foster today’s climate--a far cry from 20 years ago.
