COUNTYWIDE : Rep. Lagomarsino to Travel to Moscow
Rep. Robert J. Lagomarsino (R-Ventura) is scheduled to go to Moscow next month to give the opening remarks at a pro-democracy conference for political leaders in the new Russian Federation.
Lagomarsino plans to attend the Sept. 20-22 conference in his role as chairman of the National Republican Institute for International Affairs. The institute is part of a congressionally chartered corporation that promotes democratic principles around the world.
In a statement, Lagomarsino said the conference will offer a “nuts and bolts” workshop on democratic elections and institutions for several competing political parties in the Russian Federation led by its president, Boris N. Yeltsin.
“The leaders of these new organizations in many cases have scant experience in multi-party democracy,” Lagomarsino said.
