From Times Staff and Wire Reports

In order to comply with a federal court ruling, the Detroit Board of Education agreed to let female students attend three all-male schools aimed at poor inner-city blacks, but the panel vowed to continue to fight the ruling in court. The eight-member board unanimously approved a plan to admit 136 female students to the all-male schools in order to keep the controversial program on schedule while lawyers for the board prepare for a trial scheduled for February. U.S. District Judge George Woods ruled last week that the schools discriminated against women. He ordered the board to either scrap the program or open it up to female students.
