From Times Staff and Wire Reports

John Gotti’s racketeering trial was postponed from Sept. 23 until January because the reputed mob boss’s new attorney asked for more time to prepare. Attorney Albert J. Krieger told District Judge I. Leo Glasser in New York City that he had two upcoming trials in October that may present a conflict. Krieger, 68, was hired last week to replace Gotti attorney Bruce Cutler. Cutler was disqualified in July after the government produced secret FBI recordings that they say showed Cutler had close ties to the Gambino crime family. Since Cutler could be called to testify about the tapes, Glasser ruled that there was a conflict of interest.
