FISHING REPORT : Vacationers Leaving Lakes to the Anglers

Some of the best freshwater fishing in Southern California follows Labor Day weekend, traditionally the last fling of summer, when lakes settle down from the frenzy of water skiers, jet skiers and other high-speed water craft.

“Fishermen will be the only people out there now,” said Lin Crawford of Lin’s Tackle Box at Big Bear Lake--an observation echoed by Jean Bryant, concessions manager at Silverwood Lake.

Big Bear Lake will reinstate its annual Fall Trout Classic, canceled last year, on Oct. 5-6.
