U.S. Cigarette Production Rises: U.S. cigarette output increased 5% in 1990 as rising exports more than offset a declining domestic market, the Agriculture Department says. Exports jumped nearly 16%, while domestic consumption dropped 3%. “Since its peak in 1981, domestic consumption has declined 19%, while per capita consumption for those 18 years old and over fell nearly 36%,” a department report said.
