Arcadia : Fighting Crime by Phone
Police will be able to update residents on crime sprees in the city with a new automated telephone system that is being tested.
The $5,500 typewriter-size Telecorp system is being used this week on a limited basis, Sgt. Bob Sanderson said.
The system is designed to dial as many as 2,300 phone numbers at a time and can be programmed to record four messages. Residents will not be called before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m., Sanderson said.
The machine will be used to alert neighborhood watch programs to crimes and to give descriptions of suspected criminals, he said. Residents will also be able to leave information on one of the recording modes.
