An Oak View teen-ager was killed and three others injured Tuesday night when the pickup in which they were riding on California 33 swerved off the road and rolled over twice, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Driver Jeffrey H. Holt, 18, died after he was thrown from a 1984 Ford Ranger pickup while driving south near Shell Road shortly after 9 p.m., CHP Officer T.J. McAllister said.

Also ejected from the truck was Desiree Caldwell, 15, of Ojai, who was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries, including a broken pelvis, McAllister said.

Treated for minor injuries at the medical center were Elizabeth Golding, 16, and Craig Duke, 15, both of Ojai.

None of the four teen-agers was wearing a seat belt, McAllister said.

CHP investigators said it appeared from skid marks that Holt lost control of the vehicle and drove onto the right shoulder, bounced off a berm, rolled twice across two lanes and hit the road’s median divider.

“It appeared he overcorrected after hitting the berm,” McAllister said. There was no evidence that he was speeding, she said.
