McDonnell Douglas Calls for Investigation: McDonnell Douglas has called for an investigation by the Polish government into why the nation’s airline, LOT-Polish Airlines, reversed a decision last week to buy nine MD-80 jetliners and instead ordered Boeing 737s. The deal was worth an estimated $270 million. In a letter to Polish officials, Robert Hood, president of the firm’s Douglas Aircraft unit in Long Beach, said all the conditions of the agreement, signed on June 4, had been met. The reversal, Hood said, is “motivated by reasons not in the best interests of LOT or the government of Poland.” Despite the call for an investigation, McDonnell did not assert that the decision was tainted by wrongdoing.
