Davis Factor Sr.; Headed Max Factor & Co.

Davis Factor Sr., 89, former chairman of the board and chief executive of the cosmetics company Max Factor & Co. started by his father. Born in Poland, Factor moved to St. Louis and then to Los Angeles as a child. The family business began with Max Factor, the father, making wigs and later face powder for movie stars. Davis Factor grew up with the business, which rapidly was marketed to Los Angeles women as “society makeup.” When the father died in 1938, Davis Factor took the helm of the expanding company. Known for his philanthropy, Davis Factor was a major contributor to the Cedars-Sinai Building Fund for its current medical center, and to the Jewish Home for the Aging.
