The 3M Data Storage Products Division in Camarillo has received the first American Lung Assn. award in Ventura County for the company’s efforts to improve air quality, officials said.

The award was presented to the company this week by William Michael Reynolds, president of the American Lung Assn. of Ventura County. The award was created to recognize companies, organizations and individuals for their cleanup efforts, said Barbara Weinberg, association spokeswoman.

3M was recognized for its initiation in 1983 of an $8.1-million program to reduce plant air emissions. The first phase of the project reduced emissions by 37%, the company reported. The second phase, scheduled to be completed next year, is expected to reduce total air emissions to 76% below 1987 levels.
