Jackie Joyner-Kersee, forced to withdraw from the heptathlon at last month’s World Championships because of a hamstring injury, will resume training in the next two weeks, according to Bob Kersee, her husband-trainer.

Joyner-Kersee, the gold medalist in the heptathlon and long jump at the 1988 Olympics, won the long jump last month at Tokyo, but the injury caused her withdrawal after the 200 meters in the heptathlon.

“It’s good news because it was not a pulled hamstring, just a minor strain in the hamstring,” Kersee said. “She has now gotten the green light to start back running in terms of jogging and weight training. She is going to start full time in the next two weeks.
