Transamerica Insurance Co. in Woodland Hills has appointed John S. Benton director of industry affairs for commercial insurance.

Benton, 32, will be responsible for monitoring regulatory and legislative issues related to commercial lines, including workers’ compensation. Previously, Benton was on the legal staff of CNA Insurance Cos. in Chicago, and he also has served with the Iowa Department of Insurance.

Transamerica Insurance is a unit of Transamerica Corp., a financial services concern based in San Francisco.
