National Technical Posts 11% Quarterly Profit Drop

National Technical Systems Inc. said continued losses from its nuclear-power services unit contributed to an 11% drop in its fiscal second-quarter profit, to $188,000 from $212,000 a year earlier.

The unit, S & W Technical Services, has helped boost National Technical’s revenue, which increased 38% in the quarter that ended July 31, to $10.5 million from $7.63 million a year earlier.

National Technical, which provides a variety of engineering and testing services, said S & W Technical’s losses have narrowed recently and that the subsidiary--acquired last Nov. 1--”will be approaching break-even by the fourth quarter of fiscal 1992,” which begins in November.

For the first half of its fiscal year, National Technical’s profit fell 24%, to $315,000 from $413,000 a year earlier, and its six-month revenue climbed 35%, to $20.6 million from $15.3 million.
