Exxon Plans New Facilities: Exxon USA plans to construct facilities at three refineries to produce a high-octane blending component used in cleaner burning gasoline. Total investment is expected to exceed $100 million. The component, methyl tertiary-butyl ether, is blended into gasoline to reduce carbon monoxide and other exhaust emissions. Exxon has awarded a contract to Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. of Pasadena for an MTBE plant at Exxon’s Baton Rouge, La., refinery. Similar facilities are planned at plants in Baytown, Tex., and Benecia, Calif.
