The University of La Verne will begin offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs at a new center in Oxnard later this month, a school official said Monday.

The Ventura County Professional Development Center will offer courses leading to bachelor’s degrees in business administration and accounting and master’s degrees in business administration and business and organizational management. The new center is on Solar Drive near Rice Avenue, south of the Ventura Freeway.

The Los Angeles County-based university, which has offered courses in Ventura County since 1969 at the Point Mugu Residence Center in Oxnard and at other locations, is adding the second center as part of long-range expansion plans, director Dorothy John said.

Health-care-management and public-administration programs for residents of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties will be transferred from the university’s San Fernando Valley Center to the new center, John said.

Courses will continue to be offered at other locations, including public administration classes at the Sheriff’s Department offices at the Ventura County government center and an MBA program at the Holiday Inn in Goleta.

The Point Mugu center, where about 33% of the students are in the military, will continue to offer bachelor’s degrees in criminology, mathematics, psychology and business management, school officials said.

Registration is scheduled at Point Mugu on next Monday and at the professional development center on Sept. 23. Classes for both centers start Sept. 30. For more information, call 981-8030.
