Stop Mall, Save Land

Share

The citizens of Camarillo continue to strenuously object, and rightly so, to the proposed change in zoning for the “Sammis Mega-Mall.” The location, southeast of the Ventura Freeway and Pleasant Valley Road, will destroy forever 86 1/2 acres of prime agri-land--some of the best in the country.

The developer estimates approximately 40,000 vehicle trips per day. That is approximately 3,200 per hour at peak periods, or one car each and every 1.1 seconds. A 40,000-car parade in a town of 50,000 people is quite a gathering, bumper-to-bumper reaching about 113 miles.

The environmental impact is frightening, seriously affecting the air quality, increasing consumption of water, and generating additional sewage. Police and fire equipment will have a very difficult time servicing emergency calls with that amount of traffic.

We do not want, or need, a “Mega-Mall” in Camarillo. Concerned citizens should write to members of the City Council and to the Planning Commission and firmly express their feelings and desires against changing the zoning from agriculture and against this project.
