Il Messaggero Plays Mitchell in Finals
Il Messaggero, which features two-time Olympic gold medalists Karch Kiraly and Steve Timmons, advanced to the finals by defeating Team Paul Mitchell, 30-26, 30-21, in the third round of Team Cup Volleyball at the Forum Wednesday.
Il Messaggero will play Team Paul Mitchell again in the finals Friday.
In the other Team Cup match, Team Toyota defeated Team Coca-Cola, 30-21, 30-22.
Kiraly had 10 kills and Timmons seven for Il Messaggero, which improved to 3-0.
Adam Johnson, a former star at USC and a pro-beach Volleyball tour player, had seven kills and five digs for Team Paul Mitchell (2-1).
Kent Steffes, who also plays on the pro-beach volleyball tour, had 15 kills for Team Toyota. Mark Miller had eight kills and Rod Wilde had nine digs for Team Toyota (1-2).
