Newport Yacht Club to Host Two Events

Jack Franco of the Balboa Yacht Club will defend his title at the Snipe North American Sailing Championship on Sept. 18-21. Some of the world’s top sailors are expected to compete at the event hosted by the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

Argyle Campbell and Tim Hogan, both of the NHYC, and Brazil’s Bertel Bojilsen of the Clube de Sao Paulo also will contend.

The Newport Harbor Yacht Club also will be the site of the U.S. Snipe Masters Championships on Sept. 14-17. Local contenders include Fred Schenck of the NHYC and George Crall and Jim English, both of Newport Beach. Masters sailors must be at least 45 in order to enter the race, with a combined two-man crew age of at least 80.
