Creditors Committee Appeal Denied: A federal judge denied an appeal from Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc. creditors seeking authority to file for up to $1 billion in damage claims against the troubled retailer. U.S. District Judge Dickran Tevrizian upheld an August decision by a bankruptcy judge that allowed a Carter Hawley Hale special committee to lead the efforts to decide the chain’s fate. Carter Hawley Hale, owner of several department stores including the Broadway, filed for bankruptcy in February.
