FALL ALBUMS : In Brief : * Martika, “Martika’s Kitchen,” Columbia.

Nothing’s cooking here. It was a blunder to put Martika’s thin, unconvincing vocals up front, instead of buried under a booming backbeat in the background were they belong. The pop-dance tracks are passable, but the ballads magnify her vocal weakness. Even Prince--a co-writer and producer on four tracks--was no help.
