Malibou Lake Controversy

Share

As President of the Malibou Lakeside Homeowners Assn., I would like to correct some misinformation in the article entitled “Residents Duel Over Proposal for 15 Houses in Rustic Area.”

To say there has been a one-year moratorium in the Malibou Lakeside area is incorrect. The Board of Supervisors approved an urgency ordinance for the area that does not preclude building, but calls for stronger enforcement of building codes for all construction. In the process of creation and implementation of the urgency ordinance, 10 new homes were approved for construction.

Neighborhood residents, myself included, were misquoted. It was offensive reading myself quoted using the term “My God” when I am a religious woman and do not speak in those terms. Valley friends of ours read the article and commented, “it made your group seem like a bunch of whiners.”

Finally, the article focused on the feud between neighbors and landowners rather than the cusp of the debate. The debate raises the ugly specter of political compromise as dictated by, once again, the almighty dollar and the powerful push for build-out vs. the right to citizens’ safety.
