OAK PARK : 100 Attend Hearing on Jordan Ranch

Share

More than 100 people crowded into the meeting of the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council Tuesday night for what may be their last chance to speak publicly about the Jordan Ranch development before an upcoming vote by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

The council treated the discussion as a continuation of the public meeting held about Jordan Ranch three weeks ago. If approved, entertainer Bob Hope, owner of the 2,308-acre Jordan Ranch, has offered to sell or swap 5,700 acres of his property in the Santa Monica and Santa Susana mountains for $10 million and 59 acres of federal parkland.

The swap would allow development of 750 homes and a championship golf course on the remaining land.

The majority of the crowd Tuesday appeared to oppose the project.

Virginia Pollock of Save Open Space said Jordan Ranch is a badly planned development that would undermine the county’s policy of preserving space.
