Two weeks after her indictment on charges of immigration fraud, an official of the nation’s largest Latino civil rights organization had her bail set at $100,000 Tuesday by a federal magistrate in Los Angeles.
Mila Del Rosario, 48, of Los Angeles, was expected to be released as early as today after being held without bail at the Federal Detention Center since her Aug. 29 indictment. Del Rosario, regional director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, is among 12 people indicted in recent weeks for allegedly recruiting and helping undocumented immigrants file false applications for status as temporary residents.
The indictments stem from an ongoing INS investigation into possible fraud in amnesty programs, including one run by Las Vegas immigration consultant Jose Velez, the national president of LULAC.
