LONDON —
A 300-year-old church built by Britain’s most famous architect, Christopher Wren, was severely damaged Friday when a building crane toppled over and smashed through its roof.
“It’s worse devastation than anything the war did,” said the Rev. John Paul, pastor of St. James Garlickhythe Church in central London.
The church, built in 1682 and regarded as an architectural masterpiece, was hit by German bombers during World War II. It recently had been undergoing further restoration.
