Veto of Ban on Rabbit Testing
Your article states: “In this procedure, called the Draise test, a drop of the substance is placed in the eye of a rabbit and the animal’s reactions are noted.” This is a gross understatement, and you should have the courage to describe this test fully.
In the Draise test, a rabbit is locked into a device that confines its head, and its eyes are locked into the open position. A caustic chemical substance is then dropped into the eye while the animal can do nothing more than experience the horror. Contrary to “noting the animal’s reactions,” the test is done to determine the various degrees of the eye’s burning out.
The test is essentially done to satisfy the element of “testing” when and if a company is sued and accused of negligence.
