Electronics Firm Owner Posts Bail in Export Case

A Newport Beach businessman accused of illegally exporting electronics equipment to Iran was released from jail Monday after posting $200,000 bail.

Reza (Ray) Amiri, owner of a Newport Beach computer consulting firm, had been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles since his Aug. 28 arrest.

Amiri is accused of shipping to Tehran portable oscilloscopes and other equipment that are used to make missile guidance systems efficient and accurate. He is charged with 17 counts of conspiracy to violate the Export Administration Act, illegal exports of technology and submitting false export papers.

Amiri and a co-defendant, Mohammad (Don) Danesh of Mission Viejo, are scheduled to stand trial Nov. 5 in federal court in Los Angeles. Danesh was the operations manager of Amiri’s firm.
