Rejection of Subic Bay Treaty
There seems to be no let-up in the Philippines’ downslide toward ignominy and misfortune.
After absorbing the devastating blows of typhoons, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, (the deadly coups notwithstanding) you wonder how much more can a nation take?
And just when the country is barely breathing from these calamities, the Philippine Senate has rejected the treaty that would have saved the livelihood of 100,000 Filipinos and their dependents. Why?
Have the so-called “public servants” become so insensitive to the plight of their constituents that they are willing to gamble the survival of the nation in the name of sovereignty?
The Philippines has been sovereign since 1946 when it was granted independence, or have they forgotten it?
