THOUSAND OAKS : Officials Trade Charges of Lying

Share

Two Thousand Oaks council members accused each of lying Tuesday night in what has been a longstanding dispute over the city’s Jungleland project.

In a heated exchange, Councilman Alex Fiore referred to Councilwoman Elois Zeanah as a slippery eel after she refused to apologize about a statement she made last week regarding Fiore.

Zeanah accused Fiore of lying about the amount of land the city needed to build the Jungleland development, a $63-million, 23-acre project that includes a new City Hall, an arts auditorium and a forum theater.

This week, however, she said she had no record of Fiore’s “lie” because it was made in a closed session for council members that was not recorded on videotape.

“You haven’t got the guts to apologize and admit you are wrong,” Fiore told Zeanah at Tuesday night’s council meeting. “You are as slippery as any eel I’ve ever seen,” he said. Zeanah accused Fiore of impugning her integrity and refused to continue the conversation during the council meeting.

Zeanah has been the only council member to consistently criticize the Jungleland project since she was elected last November. Fiore is one of the two most ardent supporters of the Jungleland development.
