U.S. Hog Farmers Take Hard Line With EC: They say Europe’s nearly year-old ban on American pork has cost them $50 million, and they renewed calls for retaliation unless the dispute is resolved by Nov. 15. The European Community contends that U.S. meatpacking plants fail to meet European sanitary standards--an allegation that the National Pork Producers Council disputes. The council also berated the Department of Agriculture for delays in deciding on food aid programs for the Soviet Union. Hog farmers want meat included with wheat and feed grains in sales programs guaranteed by government credits.
