Oaks Resuscitated: Garth Chambers, chief visionary and principal owner of the exclusive, golf-oriented community of Dove Canyon, got some good news the other day.

The long-dormant Oaks development of expensive, single-family homes--last of three projects started but left unfinished by troubled Custom Living Communities--has come back to life.

San Diego-based Davidson Communities has been retained by the firm that provided the land-acquisition loan for the 90-unit subdivision to take over construction. Custom Living had built only three models when it ran into financial trouble and pulled out.

Phil Deol, vice president for sales and marketing at Davidson, said the builder will use existing plans for the homes but freshen up the floor plans with a few cosmetic changes.

The homes will start in the upper $400,000 range. Homes to be built later without golf course frontage will start at substantially lower prices, he said.
