Santa Paula : Elementary to Turn Into Magnet School
- Share via
The Santa Paula Elementary School District has decided to turn the Glen City Elementary School into a multicultural-bilingual magnet school.
The elementary school had been a partial bilingual magnet school last year. However, school officials believed that the change was needed “to appeal to more children,” said Bonnie Bruington, assistant superintendent of educational services for the district.
Bruington said children not in magnet classes were unable to enjoy the same field trips and other privileges as those students in the bilingual program, which received more state funding. Thus the decision was made to switch the entire school to a magnet program that encompasses all cultures.
The school plans to build a drama stage and provide a music program with the help of the Music Center in Los Angeles.
Neighborhood children will be given their choice of attending Glen City elementary or another school in the district.
