TOP MENTOR: Hispanic Engineer magazine has named UCI botanist Eloy Rodriguez as its outstanding college professor of the year for inspiring young people to seek careers as scientists and scholars. . . . “I’m really honored because it came about from students and colleagues who took the time to write about my efforts,” said Rodriguez, whose latest research is on chemicals that inhibit retroviruses. “I want to use this award to honor those students who right now are struggling to become future professors.”
