GM Tests Draw Animal Rights Groups’ Anger: Two animal rights groups will launch a campaign to boycott General Motors Corp. to protest its killing of thousands of dogs, pigs and smaller creatures in auto-safety tests. Members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Society for Texas Animal Rights say they’ll distribute leaflets outside a car show at the State Fair of Texas that began Friday. GM spokesman Don Postma said GM still does a small amount of animal testing. He said about 19,000 animals were killed in testing in the past decade, mostly mice and rats. They are not in pain at any time and are anesthetized, then killed before they regain consciousness, Postma said.
