Nation IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : Worldwide Increase in Malaria Reported

Malaria is on the increase worldwide, and scientists are not only searching for a vaccine but are considering genetically creating a mosquito incapable of carrying the parasite that causes the disease, a National Institutes of Health researcher said in Chicago. Malaria kills more than a million people every year. Also at the American Society for Microbiology meeting, it was reported that the increase in measles in the United States has reversed itself, with cases down 60% this year.
