Well, excuse me, Harold Moseby. Contrary to what you may think, we who dare to work at realizing our dream are frequently very talented. We certainly labor every bit as hard as you.

It’s just that we don’t have the luxury of doing it from 9 to 5; we have to work real jobs. We have to tell other people that we’re scriptwriters as well as firefighters, podiatrists and computer graphics consultants.

As for me, it’s not my fault that screenwriter has become the accepted euphemism for something else. My business card explains what I do without any hyphen-screenwriter attached. I’ll leave it to you to worry about the moniker of jackass .
