Notes on England

Share

Congratulations on your Aug. 4 issue with its emphasis on London and other parts of England. I have set foot in England at least once a year since 1986, and your writers have certainly covered most of the ground. A few additional items of interest should be noted.

The underground stations are not normally as clean as the one pictured.

Full English breakfasts vary from place to place.

Hotels in London can have rooms with all the amenities, yet one wouldn’t let his dog stay there. In two hotels I stayed in, I could stand in the bathroom, extend my arms to shoulder height, rotate 90 degrees and touch all four walls.

Two hotels that have large rooms, full amenities and are less expensive than those mentioned in the article: the Holiday Inn in Croydon, just outside London with easy rail access to Victoria Station, and The Embassy, which is on Bayswater Road close to the Mornington Hotel.

Finally, the English people that I had occasion to talk to were all extremely friendly, which is reason enough to keep going back.
