From Times Staff and Wire Reports

China expressed “strong dissatisfaction” and “extreme regret” over a U.S. investigation into alleged Chinese trade barriers to American products, a move that could result in sanctions against Beijing. A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade said U.S. accusations about Chinese trade practices are “totally unacceptable” and that Washington has ignored positive, substantial efforts made by China. He blamed American politics for Washington’s decision to launch an investigation. If China does not ease limits on American goods within a year, the United States could impose heavy duties on Chinese goods.
