Hard-Working Immigrants Need a Hand

Because of stories similar to that of Andres Candido, many Americans feel uneasy about El Salvador, wondering whether the U. S. is supporting a dictatorial regime which persecutes its own people, who then must leave their country and, ironically, come here.

The vast majority of El Salvadoran refugees don’t think so. They come here simply seeking work. Unlike Candido, who apparently spent his “most important” three years working with the (guerrillas), most Salvadorans show a distinct distaste for the FMLN (Faribundo Marti Liberacion Nacional). They also support the U.S. support of El Salvador.

I have drawn my conclusions after about 10 years of talking to Salvadorans with whom I come into contact through my daily activities. My polling technique is unconventional, and Gallup might have me hanged, but it does have an appealing randomness to it.
