Arson Fire in Club Kills 16
A drunken farmer poured gasoline on the stage at a crowded nightclub and set it afire in a provincial city Thursday night, killing 16 people and injuring six others, South Korean police said.
MBC television, quoting police officials, said the farmer had argued with waiters at the Kosungkwan nightclub in Taegu, 150 miles southeast of Seoul.
Most of the victims--nine women and seven men--died from inhaling toxic fumes from burning carpet and vinyl, MBC said.
The arsonist, identified as Kwon Kyung Soo, 29, was reportedly unhurt.
