A man facing a 15-year prison sentence for refusing to pay taxes fatally shot himself minutes after calling police to say he was committing suicide, authorities said.

William Schuhl, who had not paid state taxes since 1982, was found by police in his garage with a gunshot wound to his head. His wife also faces a prison term for failure to file tax returns.
