The Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah said its guerrillas detonated two roadside bombs in southern Lebanon on Tuesday and killed 15 Israeli soldiers. Israel confirmed the attacks but said only one soldier was wounded.

A Hezbollah communique said the first blast occurred at 8 a.m. and targeted an armored personnel carrier in the village of Taibe, northeast of the southern port city of Tyre. It said five soldiers were killed and one seriously wounded.

The communique said the second attack came at 1:30 p.m. in the same area and killed 10 soldiers.

In Israel, an army spokesman confirmed the attacks. He said the first blast slightly wounded one soldier, who was treated on the spot. The spokesman said there were no casualties in the second explosion.

Hezbollah has linked recent attacks to its opposition to the Middle East peace conference scheduled to begin next week in Madrid.
