WORLD IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Harvest Expected to Decline by 80%

Iraq will lose more than 80% of its normal harvest this year, a team of U.N.-sponsored researchers predicted in Amman, Jordan. They said the bleak forecast is due to Gulf War damage to Iraq’s electrical system, preventing the pumping of water to irrigate land, and to U.N. sanctions barring Baghdad from importing machinery, pesticides and other supplies.
