Thanks for Tikal

I would like to heartily thank Michael Tennesen for his stupendous article “An Avian Wonderland in Guatemala’s Tikal,” Oct. 6. While it is true that Guatemala is a troubled little Central American country (guerrillas, cholera), it is also true that its places of interest--such as the marvelous Tikal National Park--are among the most fascinating destinations for tourists around the world. Tennesen’s accurate and nearly poetic description of the extraordinary flora and fauna of the park and its surrounding areas made me feel very proud of that small country in which I was born.
