Anaheim Nears Its Goal for Reduced Water Usage

Water usage in the city was down 16.7% in September compared to a year ago, and the city has almost achieved its yearlong goal of reducing water usage by 15%, according to the Public Utilities Department.

Water usage is down 14.9% for the year, spokesman Ray Merchant said. The city, which is using a voluntary water conservation program, has asked residents and businesses to curtail water consumption because of the state’s five-year drought.

“As to how we will do in October, the jury is still out,” he said. “The first of the month, it was much hotter and drier than normal, but now it has gotten cooler and wetter.
