State Lottery

I suggest that Edgar Cowan is full of beans (Platform, “The Lottery Scam,” Oct. 22). The lottery was never promoted for anything other than those things that could not be obtained via the normal budget. Items such as computers, musical instruments, other extras, etc. Not to increase teachers’ salaries as has happened in, I imagine, more than one district.

Also, Mr. Cowan, if your friends or relatives think that the lottery was ever intended to supply major funding to the schools, they were and are smoking something other than tobacco.

I also believe that state funding has not been offset or reduced to match the monies received from the lottery.
