World IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Violation Reported in Arms Shipment

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The German Secret Service violated a decision by the government's security council by attempting to ship military hardware to Israel, the news magazine Der Spiegel reported. The magazine said that in February the security council expressed its reservations about sending either tanks or a Soviet air defense system to Israel. Nevertheless, the Secret Service went ahead with plans to send the equipment, but it was intercepted in Hamburg, the magazine said.
