Surfing Software: Sometimes the name of a company or its products describes more about its founder than its business. That’s the case with Surf City Software, started this week by software designer Chris Johnson in Orange.

Surf City’s software, which operates backup storage systems for personal computers, has a definite beach theme. Its first software backup program for Macintosh computers is called “Surfguard,” and a program that controls and accesses Macintosh computer disk drives is called “Lido.”

“It’s off the beaten path for a software company, but the idea was to create something for people to remember,” Johnson said. “My wife and I were thinking of a name and the Beach Boys came on the radio.”
